Unable to Open Server Explorer to Add an Image

Problem:

Server Explorer does not open when a backoffice user wants to add an image. This problem can occur while adding images to the themes, navigation items, payment and shipping methods and content landing page blocks.

Symptoms:

When the backoffice user clicks the 'Browse' button to add an image, an empty pop-up of the Server Explorer opens.

Possible reasons:

The 'application/octet-stream' MIME type is unknown to IIS.

Solution:

Step 1: Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

Step 2: In the 'IIS' section open the 'MIME Types' page.

Step 3: Click on the 'Add…' link on the right (the 'Actions' column).

Step 4: In the 'File name extension' field specify the 'axd' extension.

Step 5: In the 'MIME type' field type 'application/octet-stream':
